Stroke Stories

Understanding the stroke experience

Mo's Story

At the time of her stroke, Mo worked at the Inland Revenue, while her husband George had recently retired. They both had an active life and enjoyed golf. Their daughter was in the process of moving to America and Mo was alone in her daughter's house waiting for a prospective buyer when she suffered her stroke. Mo had no return of power to her arm for about nine months.

Eighteen months after her stroke, Mo describes her recovery journey, including her early frustrations, her gradual acceptance of her situation and the simple joy of being able to pick up her new granddaughter, which she could not do at first.
